Lauren Chambers and Amanda Winslow Rock the House!
A Friday
Wesleyan extended their lead into perhaps an uncatchable number as the Lady Wolves poured it on in the Field and the 3200 meters. Anne Marie Armstrong added another HJ title to her resume with a winning height of 5-04 and also won the bronze medal in the Shot Put. Teamate Holli Wilkins had no competition in the Shot with a gold medal heave of 38-01. Erika Ramsey followed her 1600 win with a 3rd place effort in 11:50. Winning the 3200 however was Greer Gafford of Holy Innocents who continued her charge after closing strong in the 1600 race by taking that momentum into Friday evening's 3200 and taking the gold medal in 11:34. Andrea Raville of OLM was runnerup in 11:38.
5A Friday
Collins Hills girls racked up eighteen huge points in the 1600 meters behind the efforts of Winslow and teamate Nicky Akande who placed second in 5:00.75 putting Collins Hill in second place going into Saturdays finals. Brookwood ended the first day leading AAAAA behind the efforts of Caroline Kissel 5:16(4th) and Carly Egan 5:22(6th) in the 1600. Emily Brewer took the gold in the discus for the Lady Broncs with a toss of 130'7 and Brandy Byers added 3.5(5th) points with a clearance of 5'2 in the high jump.Tamala Daley of Redan doubled in the field winning the Triple Jump with a leap of 38'3 and a leap of 18'8 in the Long Jump to place Redan in third place going into the finals. Lauren Wilson placed second in the Pole Vault with a jump of 10'6 and Oneisha Smith also placed second in the High Jump with a clearance of 5'6. Gabrielle Fulton also chipped in two points placing seventh in the 1600 putting the Lady Panthers into fourth place. Individually Lauren Hutchinson set a new state record in AAAAA for the Pole Vault with a jump of 11'7. Keira Peek of Lowndes won the High Jump with a clearance of 5'6.
4A Friday
Megan Wetterhall and Anna Bowles once again had an amazing duel in the 1600 meters with Wetterhall just nosing out Bowles for the gold medal Wetterhall ran a 5:07.54 and Bowles ran a 5:07.94 with Sophie Harkins of Marist placing third. Katie Bragg scored eighteen points for the Lady Panthers of Starr's Mill winning the Discus in 133'9 and placing second in the Shot Put with a throw of 39'3 putting the Lady Panthers in the hunt for the AAAA state title. Crystal Christain placed second in the Long Jump with a leap of 18'2.25 racking up another eight points for Starr's Mill. Natalie Houser also came up big placing second in the Pole Vault with a clearance of 9'0 and Jackie Sample also racked up points for Starr's Mill placing fourth in the 1600 with a time of 5:21.68. Preliminaries went very well for Southwest Dekalb and they are in a very good position if they perform on que to repeat as State Champions in AAAA.
3A Friday
Brittany Porter of Towers nearly pulled of the elusive Triple in the Field for Towers as she dominated both horizontal jumps in marks of 19-07.50 and 38-11 and had a huge pr in the Shot with a mark of 41-10 just a hair short of the gold medal totalling 28 points in the Field putting Towers atop the board going into Saturday. Riverwood's Bret McDaniel doubled up in the 3200m after her 1600 performance the evning before running unchallenged the entire race again clocking an 11:04.96. Therrell ran very well in the prelims with no false starts to derail their efforts so watch out for them on Saturday to climb the leaderboard very quickly Sloan Bunting of West Forsyth continued to excel in the Vault placing 1st clearing 11-03. J'quyia Moncur-Blue of Eastside doubled in the throws with marks of 126-05 and 41-10. Monroe-Albany's Mimieux Land got the home folks standing winning the LJ with a leap of 5-07.
2A Friday
Greater Atlanta Christian had things falling right into place for them on Friday with some key performances from the Field and Track. Jessica Tuggle racked up 13 points taking the gold in the TJ in 36-10.5 and placing 6th in the LJ. Top ranked vaulter Claire Goodson set a new state record in 2A clearing 10-07.75 and Lauren Kester turned in a runnerup finish in the 1600m clocking a 5:20. Gordon Central had a huge day in the Field scoring 28 points led by Sarah Talley as she doubled in the Throws with winning marks of 127-00 and 42-08.75 with teamates Taylor Simpson placing 4th in the HJ at 5-04 and Lauren Oesterle chipping in 2.5 points tying for 6th in the vault. North Oconee added 18 points behind an impressive win by Rebecca Greenwall in the 1600m in 5:15 and frosh vaulter Sydney Rodkey who cleared 10-00 to placing 2nd. Lovett ended the day in 3rd palce with 22 points thanks to Elizabeth Rucker's bronze medal in the 1600 and Chloe Johnson's silver medal in the LJ. Decatur is the team to keep an eye on Saturday....
